Billionaire Carlos Slim’s stake in US operator grows once again
Grupo Carso’s interest in Talos Energy up to 23.6%
Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim has once again grabbed a greater slice of Talos Energy, upping his stake in the US operator to nearly one-quarter of all outstanding shares, federal filings show.
Slim’s business empire bought roughly 2.4 million shares in two separate transactions Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a US Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) filing from Talos late on Thursday.
Combined, the shares were bought for about $26.5 million.
The Grupo Carso magnate now owns nearly 23.6% of all outstanding Talos shares after he bought another 923,000 in early August.
Slim’s relationship with Talos dates back to at least 2023, when Talos sold a 49.9% stake in its Mexico subsidiary to Grupo Carso.
Talos officials spoke glowingly about the Slim investments in the company’s second-quarter earnings call.
Talos is expected to become a contractor with Grupo Carso on the Lakach natural gas field. The Mexican conglomerate took control of the project from state-owned Pemex and plans to invest more than $1.2 billion to develop it.
